A Little Love for a Half Bath and FIVE FAVs for FRIDAY

Good Morning All and Happy Friiiiiiiday! I am sure that Spring is right around the corner.  It is this time of year that I get fidgety and feel the need to get all the things done.at.once.  I mean, yikes, we are almost through with the first quarter of the year! What!? Why is it that it feels like Spring is dragging her feet in arriving, and yet I still have not tackled my Winter To-Do List (doesn’t everyone have lists arranged by season?) Sigh. SO, instead I am going to break things down into baby steps and march forward to Marie Kondo the attic, clean out the garage (again), and reorganize the linen closet before the snow melts and I am free once again to get outside in my flip flops.

Lately I have been working on a half bath facelift, and due to my love affair with wallpaper, have been on the hunt for the perfect print.  The ceiling is really tall, so while it is only a half bath, the scale of the room can support a larger wallpaper print (my fav). I have been dreaming of this one, which will play nicely with the current cream colored tiled floor that is not getting replaced:

Textured Trellis Wallpaper

I also plan to divide the height of the wall with a chair rail and apply horizontal tongue and groove boards like this, just picture it painted gray with wallpaper above:

shiplap below chair rail bathroom
Shiplap look

I have been dreaming of how to implement this look ever since I snapped this pic at the White Elephant during our trip to Nantucket. Yes, I took pics of the bathroom decor….but in my defense it really was that pretty!

White Elephant, Nantucket

I also want to add a bolder ceiling molding because the ceiling height can definitely support that scale, but I don’t want it to  compete with the wallpaper and shiplap, so perhaps something like this:

Cove ceiling detail

Here is what I am planning:

On another note, I wanted to share with you my FIVE FAVS for FRIDAY!

One: These just scream happiness and sunshine! Now to choose a color…or two! P.S. Use code FF25 for 25% off.

Gorgeous Baubles

Two: I have started using this lotion for my face so as not to turn into a raisin with the dry winter air. It’s lightweight, doesn’t feel greasy, and the price is amazing! Find it here.

Three: I have been eyeing all things gingham at J.Crew lately, including this fabulous navy (swoon) gingham overcoat.

Gingham Trench

Four: I just started reading this which is a refreshing kick in the pants. I read her first book and this one has the same no nonsense tone.

Five: This is Summer in a jar and one of my fav scents. I  hoard  stock up on them when they are on sale (use code YESWAY). It’s soooo good and can be found here.

Happy Weekend!

Weekend Reading- Fall Fashion Roundup (and some picks for Home too!)

Hello and Happy Long Weekend All! Woo Hoo! I am so excited to get things done and done this weekend, however the rain has put a damper on some of my outdoor plans.  Sigh. In the interim, I am  planning out the fun upcoming events we have happening at our house (so I am not back on my heels, per the usual).  My daughter and I both have October birthdays, and hubs and I are headed to Nantucket in September.

We are looking forward to all of these celebrations, so I definitely need to address the current lack of wardrobe options.  Enter in the Labor Day sales, no longer just for appliances!  Below are some of my fav “add to cart” items, along with links to a myriad of deals to be had!  If you are like me you get excited, add to cart, and then obsessively mull over items before finally checking out at the stroke of midnight so as not to miss “the deal.”  OK, maybe that is just me….Nevertheless it is time for some fall updates and the siren song of coupon codes in my email box is calling to me so away.we.go!

First up, clothing: I am feeling a little meh about some of the newer styles and trends, so I am planning on stocking up on the classics, specifically blazers, because when paired with jeans, completes my fall uniform. One can never have enough blazers (IMHO):

Also loving these d’Orsay animal print flats!

And this versatile gingham women’s button down looks so fresh with white jeans…which YES! can and should be worn after Labor Day!

Ann Taylor, 40% off with code LONGWEEKEND

Next up, home decor: As I ponder fall decorating in 80+degree heat, here are some fun finds I sourced from around the web, including this adorable ceramic pumpkin:

I thought these pinecone topiaries were great and can be used right through the holidays. They come in two different sizes, 15″ 3/4 and 19″ 3/4 tall, and if you prefer, the collection also has a pinecone wreath and garland available.

And here is a desk accessory for pencils and pens, but I think it would be an amazing vase for fall flowers. You could group several on a table, or use on its own for a nightstand arrangement, and psssst its’ only $7.99.

What I am Loving…

Hi All! Give yourself a high-five- you made it to FRIDAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!! Woo hoo! What’s on tap this weekend? Well hubs and I are celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary with a quiet 24 hours to ourselves.  I booked a couples massage, scoped out some restaurants and previewed an art fair I am thinking of perusing.  Also planning to take kiddos to a movie this weekend and get some overdue yard work done.  It is supposed to be sunny and gorgeous all weekend…cannot wait!

Just signed on to Bloglovin’ so if you are new here, Welcome! Follow my blog with Bloglovin

So lately I have been feeling totally blech about my style, or rather “overall lack of pulled togetherness.”  Perhaps this is because we have NO (and this is not an exaggeration) local shopping options, or perhaps it is because I have happily slipped into the Summer mode called “hair-on-top-of-head”.  Regardless, I am feeling the tug of a Fall rebirth to my style.  I always look forward to the doorstop edition of the Fall Vogue, and although I am not rushing a Summer that is already moving too fast…here are some fun Fallish pieces I am loving, including my go-to fav, blazers.

From Banana some classic accessories:

Spring Styling- Easter Dresses

Hello All! This week I have been deep in the process of developing new projects, getting taxes done for hubby’s practice, and planning a fun Easter celebration! Phew! Even though the snowbanks are still visible in the backyard, I am excitedly and anxiously counting down to warmer weather!

On the top of my list is to plan an awesome Easter weekend because it will be my nephew’s FIRST Easter and he will be joining us in his first ever egg hunt!  Traditionally, my mom hosts an amazing Easter brunch complete with Easter baskets and of course, the egg hunt for the grandkids. We end up attending several Easter celebrations and as such, I try to find cute colorful dresses for the girls that will hold up to all the Easter fun!

Here is what I have scoped out so far:

Love this pleated look from Lands End

Adorable shift from Kate Spade

You cannot go wrong with this embroidered shift from J. Crew Factory

Love Navy & White– now on the hunt for some bright pink or yellow shoes!

LOVE this ribbon tie sailboat sundress now for $25!

Last year they wore the Lilly Pulitzer for Target dresses that I stood in line to get…so worth it! I am very lucky that at least for right now, they let me pick out some of their clothes…. so I will take that opportunity and run with it while the gettin’ is good!

Have a great weekend!

Pineapple of My Eye

Morning All! Over the weekend I did a quick dash to Target and Home Goods with my kids…hence the quick part. As soon as I walked in all lists and ideas went right out of my head as I tried to focus amongst the “Mom look at….”, “Mom I really need this…”, “Mom she is touching me…Hey I saw it first!” Sigh. I will go back again on a quieter day but until then, what I was able to scope out got me thinking about the pineapple trend (or re-trend) that I have been seeing everywhere.

I grew up here so pineapples have always been a thang. My mom would decorate with them during the holidays, and because my Dad was a dentist we would get fruit in our Easter baskets that always included a pineapple (I know I was sooooo deprived!).  The pineapple has long been used to denote hospitality and I love seeing it pop up again in the Spring lines. Happy New Year, May All Your Wishes Come True!

It’s resolution time! As I leave flee from 2016, my plans are to embrace 2017 as a year of all years. Where nothing is off limits, unattainable or out of reach with enough hard work, commitment, and most of all courage.

Personally, I feel that I did not hit the ball out of the park when it came to 2016. I was pulled in many directions and overall was re-active all year, never truly able to shift to a proactive stance. So this year I am going to tackle things with a vengeance with the following goals in mind:

First, I am going to indulge a bit. I am going to actually make myself breakfast and yes, sit down to eat it, rather than nibbling on whatever the kids didn’t eat while making their lunches for school. I am going to go to the gym or try a new yoga class and then take a nice long shower afterward. And after that shower I am actually going to blow-out my hair instead of piling it wet on top of my head, and then perhaps apply some of the make-up I buy but never take the time to use. It’s the little things…

Second, I am going to have more fun by doing the things I used to love to do before there was no time to do them. I will ski, remembering how freeing it is to fly down the hill. And I will go skating again, hoping of course that muscle memory is a real thing because while I used to take figure skating lessons, it has been over twenty years since I have laced up. And tennis… I smile when I play, especially against my husband when we are trying to get shots in against one another. Again, too many years have gone by. You know its bad when your kids are amazed and remark, “Mom can do that?” Why yes! Watch me!12213d996c71b782fa8e4e1b4b75e4ad

Third, I will reduce the amount of things in my home. And while I respect Marie Kondo, I was too scared to read her book as I secretly knew it would lead me down an organizing rabbit hole a la Monica Geller. Rather, I will go at my own pace room by room, bin by bin, and have a hell of a garage sale in the Summer. You see my husband and I moved a lot for our respective schooling in the early years of our marriage and you tend to accumulate things. And then when you hastily move to the next city you pack things up in “To be sorted bins” that then sit in the basement of the home you have lived in for seven years. Or maybe that is just me…but I am not lugging those damn bins with me into 2018.

Fourth, I will set out on a new journey for myself. More on this later, but I am embracing the chance to spend more time on this blog and with it meet new people, challenge myself, and learn A LOT!

I have not figured out how to add extra hours into the forthcoming days of the new year, so while this year has been full of best intentions falling short of results, the underlying premise to accomplishing all of the above is making the time to do them.  To realize their importance and move forward always striving to sneak in an extra hour or two to pull them off.  There you have it…2017 is going to be a year of all years, full of much fun and success.  All the best friends!

Back to School 2016

This is the first year I will have both kiddos in school full-time! I am saddened that this milestone is upon us, but I also have big plans on the horizon, so I am trying to keep looking forward and am thankful both kids are excited for the upcoming school year!

Here in the Northeast we start back later than many of you, so we just did our back-to-school shopping today. My mom started an amazing tradition with my kids and their cousins that we all go shopping together and of course, have lunch. The kids look forward to it every year!

And while we by no means accomplish all of our shopping with four kids under age seven, me, my SIL and mom have a great time together too. Here are some items I am picking up for their back-to school wardrobe:
