Happy Monday All! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready to get back at it! This is an install week for me so I will have plenty of pics and updates to share soon! Also be sure to check out IG to get the real time scoop as we put together bedrooms for two adorable boys.
I am happy to report that spring is a mere two days away. Am I the only one obsessively counting down? I cannot wait to leave the house without boots! This time of year I find myself drawn to particular color combos, specifically blue and white. It feels fresh and bright and very “house from Something’s Gotta Give.” Which, sidebar, is one of my favorites. That house, comprised of beautiful shades of blues, tans and whites, was soothing and elegant at the same time.
Here are some other blue and white rooms that I pinned for inspiration to share with you:
LAYERED BLUE & WHITE PATTERN:
NAVY FURNITURE /CHINOISERIE CHAIRS:
MIXED BLUES and NEUTRALS:

And here are some beautiful blue and white options to implement this look into you own decor:
Hi All! So it’s been a hot minute since I have been here! Holy guacamole time flies! I have been meaning to write a quick post about Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year, Metropolitan (AF-690), since it was released last month. One of my fav color combos is gray and navy because it is soooo easy to add pops of color to that combo to make the room feel fresh, without doing a complete overhaul. Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy is one of my go to navy paint choices, and it looks fabulous paired with the company’s color of the year. As you may know, the struggle is real to find that perfect gray that will work with various lighting in a room, but Metropolitan is a gorg gray that hits the mark.
Here is a design board I put together with some of my favorite pieces:
Ok, so here we are in the last quarter of 2018. After getting a podcast kick in the pants from the likes of Tony Robbins and Rachel Hollis, I finally set goals for myself with the blog. Guys, I LOVE writing and of course all.things.design. So I am going to set out a schedule for the days I will be writing so that there is 1) consistency- hello! ; and 2) so you will know what days to grab a coffee and join me. Lots of new projects and endeavors on the horizon for 2019, and I cannot wait to share them with you!
P.S. I have been obsessed with podcasts for some time now because while driving to and fro to complete the million errands that need to happen everyday, I can be learning something new! My current top five podcast favs are as follows, in no particular order- Enjoy!
Oprah’s Masterclass for interesting life stories from celebs- so far my favorite has been Cindy Crawford;
How I Built This for fascinating entrepreneurial tales of how they came to be- the Barbara Corcoran episode is sooo good;
Happier with Gretchen Rubin because who cannot use some more happy and Episode 172 discusses tossing unnecessary papers- upcoming resolution anyone?;
Young House Love Has a Podcast with John & Sherry, Episode #90 asks what to do when a project starts to suck- anyone who has done a home renovation can relate!
Diane Rehm have loved her thought provoking interviews since tuning in on NPR. She recently did a terrific podcast on John Grisham and 30 years of legal thrillers.
Morning and HAPPY Thursday All! I know all of you have been holding your collective breath with great anticipation…what, pray tell will be thee 2019 Color of the Year? All kidding aside, in the world of all things design, it’s a thing. And….drumroll please….. Behr has chosen a beautiful, calming blue, called Blueprint S470-5. Per their release, Behr states that Blueprint, “... is an honest, approachable color that conjures up the blueprints that builders rely on to bring architectural designs to life. Blueprint creates a space where you can build your own reimagined life-—where awareness of what we want to build for ourselves can transform into action”. That seems like a lot of pressure to put on a color, but nevertheless it is a shade that can work with many different styles to create a stunning result.
Whenever new colors are released I start playing with the tones to find products and fabrics it could be paired with. In this case, I gravitated toward a more neutral fall color palette, using this stunning shade of blue as an accent color like the photo above. Below are some fun pieces to bring in a little bit of the Blueprint feel for fall.
I hope this inspires you to try new colors at home…or at least help to get you in the mood for a little fall decorating. I have been procrastinating on this front, but with a long weekend ahead there are beacoup projects planned, including bringing the bins labeled “FOR FALL” down from storage. I may be most excited that they are labeled, sorted and can actually be found this year thanks to my ongoing operation organization (read: days spent in the hot attic this summer….sorting, sorting and sorting). Onward and upward friends! Bring on the Pumpkin Spice Lattes!
Good Morning! I hope all the Mothers out there had an amazing Mother’s Day and were pampered and celebrated! My crew and I enjoyed a quick overnight getaway because with kiddos all you really need is a hotel pool:) They swam, we ate at some really fun restaurants, they swam some more, and we took them shopping for much needed summer clothes (they grew out of everything all at once)!
And here we are in Mid-May… marching toward the end of the school year. With unbridled optimism for a relaxing Summer, I totally want to spruce up the backyard and make it more lounge-worthy. When we bought the house nine years ago the size of our back deck was a major selling feature, and since that time we have been very fortunate to host many parties and family gatherings there. Now, the deck needs a little extra TLC because the wear and tear of long winters is definitely showing. Boards need to be replaced, the annual cleaning and staining are definitely due, and some plants and flowers would go a long way….
Last year I added a polypropylene rug to our outdoor dining set-up and love how it added dimension to the space to make it feel more indoor/outdoor. This year I am eyeing a new umbrella and maybe even some outdoor curtains to provide more privacy…
Here are some fun finds I wanted to share in case you are looking to up your game in your own outdoor space:
Hi All and Happy Hump Day! I have been working on the One Room Challenge (insert nail biting here), and while sourcing that “just right” piece for the space, I surprised myself by leaning toward a bold red console. I am more of a red- light (aka pink) kinda girl, and rarely gravitate toward red beyond the Holidays. When Benjamin Moore announced their 2018 Color of the Year (yes, I follow such things) as Caliente red, I have to admit I was underwhelmed. However, after some time to marinate on it, I now find myself seeking out items with this bold, gorgeous color!
Here are some examples of how to implement my new found color crush…
A stunning console in the entryway (paired with black and white spotted paper= perfection!):
With beautiful accent chairs:
With bold picture frames to make a statement:
With gorgeous lighting:
And with Pops o’ color on pillows:
I also sourced some additional options in case you are looking to implement this bold color choice in your own design:
Hi All! Welcome to August…wait, what!? Not sure how it is 8/2 already! Anyhoo, Happy Wednesday! Not sure if anyone remembers the Friends episode with Monica’s closet? She is OCD with organization and cleanliness, but her friends discover her messy closet where she hides everything and it all comes tumbling out? I think we all have a closet, drawer, or in my case, basement, that could use a little more….. ahem, attention. Or at least I am hoping we all have that space of de-organized horror because, well, misery loves company right? Well I am giving us all permission to NOT tackle those over the Summer as planned and instead get outside and enjoy some Vitamin D.
In other news, I saw this fabulous pic from the latest issue of HGTV magazine. It stopped me in my tracks because of the amazing wall color… The velvet green couch doesn’t hurt either. It got me thinking about the dark moody paint colors that seem to be everywhere lately.
My own living room is a rich chocolate brown that I have been itching to change, despite the fact that 1) I still like the color; 2) Hubs thinks I’m nuts to change it; and 3) It would be a huge undertaking that would disturb a room in the house that we use everyday. Even if I painted at record speed it would be at least a three week project to pull together-did I mention hubby thinks I am nuts!? Still…I cannot help but dream about pulling the trigger on a rich navy like the HGTV one, or a warm dark gray that would pair oh so nicely with the light pine floors. Sigh.
While I debate some more, here are some pin-worthy inspiration photos of how to implement this moody paint trend in your own home…
A beautiful dark gray (leaning toward black) powder room:
and this amazing navy living room (looooove those moldings!):
and this gorgeous gray creates a blank slate for this dining room from MA Allen Interiors (fell down the rabbit hole perusing their amazing portfolio):
and I love the use of Benjamin Moore’s Cheating Heart, on these kitchen cabinets (p.s. the hardware is amazing!):
and this warm bedroom:
and one of my Favs, Benjamin Moore’s Nightfall, as used by Driven By Decor as the backdrop for a gallery wall:
and this serene chocolate brown living room:
and a corner of my living room in a deep chocolate brown from Olympic called Granite:
and lastly, a gorgeous exterior with a pop o’ color- I love it because it reminds me of the Adirondacks…
Off to the pool to soak in some much needed sunshine! Have a wonderful Wednesday All!
Hello All! Hope you are having a great week! I am trying to organize myself ahead of the long weekend to tackle some procrastination projects.. though not very successful thus far. I am looking forward to getting together with friends and taking time to recharge a bit. The weather is not going to be very cooperative, with only one day looking sunny, so I am going to make the best of it and pack it all into one day!
Here are some red, white and blue inspiration photos should you be hosting your own Summer kickoff party:
Hello All! Lately my dining room table desk has looked like this and I am ready to turn the page and move on to projects more fun than bookkeeping and taxes (though both necessary when running a biz… sigh).
So back into design mode tomorrow (after having a BIG glass of wine tonight) and looking forward to a few upcoming projects: 1) developing an inventory for yards and yards of fabric accumulated during my 12 years of running Sara Langley Designs Accessories and then sell said fabric to make room for new projects. You can view my progress here; 2) work on interior design projects for clients – so excited to share the “afters” with you soon; 3) work on my own makeover as a guest participant in the One Room Challenge. Phew! So excited!
In the meantime, I am crushing on blue and white prints and am looking forward to bringing them into some projects I am working on. Some inspiration as follows:
Happy LUCKY Friday all! Today is always a special day for me because it was my late Nana’s birthday and St. Patrick’s Day so it doesn’t get much luckier than that. I have been loving all things green lately (isn’t it funny how you can get hooked on a color?) so what better day than the present to share my green snaps with you!
This lovely bauble arrived from J. Crew this morning!
My parents stopped by with shamrock plants for the girls, an annual St. Patty’s tradition.
So excited to announce that I have been working on setting up a Sara Langley Designs Limited Edition Pop-Up Etsy Store. Stay Tuned!
